Blog Entry # 5.7 - Design Task
In my own words the design task that we have been asked to do is to make a PSA. In the form of a video. Everyone was given a different issue that is going on right now , So what we have to do with it is explain it & make a short 30 second video of why we should try to prevent it .

Blog Entry # 5.5 - Issue Research
1. Are you working alone or in a group? If you are working in a group, who are your group member(s)?
- I am working alone .
2. What social issue have you been assigned?
-The social issue is Teen Pregnancy.
3. In order to develop an effective PSA you must feel a personal connection to the social issue that you are addressing. What does this social issue mean to you?
-This issue means a lot to me , being a young teenager myself i see and have to try and be careful and prevent this from happening to me or anyone of my friends. It is not that it is the worst thing in the world to someone but it is not the greatest. For some people it can completely ruin their lifes, change everything about them, put their life basically on hold for having to take care of a child.
4. What group(s) is/are affected by your assigned social issue?
- Many groups are affected by this social issue. Teens in general are, but so are the boyfriends,or anyone that got that person pregnant & it also affects the families of that person . The reality is that teens families are gonna be affected too . Good families are going to be the ones that are not going to flat leave their children, kick them out of their home and put them on their own, they are going to be the ones that try and help their children and teach them that what they did could of been prevented but it already happened so might as well deal with it.
5. What potential negative impact can this issue have?
-This issue can have many negative impacts like abortions, the babies having defects or mental issues, the teens having the baby (mother and father) to have to drop out of school to take care of the baby, having to get a job that pays minimum wage , or making their families having to stop their loves & help with the baby. It can basically change any ones life completely. Being a pregnant teen is not easy.
6. What research (statistics) can you use to support your argument that this is a social issue that needs to be addressed?
- Every year almost one million teenage girls become pregnant, More than half of them are 17 years old or younger when they have their first pregnancy., Approximately one-third of the girls who get pregnant carry their pregnancies to term and keep their babies, About another third have abortions, and the other third has spontaneous miscarriages, Only about five percent of pregnant girls put their babies up for adoption, Approximately 40 percent of young women become pregnant before they reach 20 years old.,The United States of America has double the adolescent pregnancy and birth rates of any other industrialized country, Less than one-third of teens who have babies before the age of 18 finish high school, Almost half of all teen mothers end up on welfare, Less than 25 percent of births to teens occur within wedlock.
7. Agency/Organization
- This organization is connected to my social issue because it is taking it into consideration that some teens may think about having a baby or it might happen by accident but they are trying to help & give advice on teen prevention.
